Today we put in some hard work. Full house, 60 people moving, breathing and sweating. So fun! Taught a Modo Flow today and our intention for class came from an article I had read while on my trip to Australia. It was called, "23 Pieces of Life-Changing Wisdom You Can Learn from Your Everyday Life" On top of this we had a #filthy filthy playlist that really helped our groove. Playlist shared at the end of the blog.
I can't recall what # of the 23 this idea came from, but here is the quote I shared to begin our class:
"You can walk mindfully, or you can just walk. What determines how much you grow isn’t just what you go through, it’s also your level of awareness while going through said experience."
On The Mat
For the asana practice, the main part we kept coming back to was the first line, it's so powerful, "You can walk mindfully, or you can just walk." From down dog as we step forward to our hands, we can just step, or we can step mindfully. After sweeping up we brought our hands to heart center, we closed our eyes. "Lift your chest into your thumbs. You can just be here, or you can tune in and feel your heart beat against your thumbs. You can touch your aliveness."
As we moved through the 60 minutes, we gently worked with the power of tuning into what we are experiencing as we are experiencing it. Our willingness to be honest with ourselves and our bodies in this one class. No need to try to keep up with someone else. No need to compare to another body or another practice. The rich growth that comes from allowing yourself to get into the full experience is immense.
Off The Mat
This really carries to our life off the yoga mat. And really this quote was meant for 'off the mat.' But yoga is a wonderful tool to practice honesty with ourself, to practice being right in the middle of everything that comes up in our breath, stillness and movement.
Everyday we have the opportunity to grow. Things are always changing, ALWAYS, and this includes us. So much of that change comes from our experiences. We can go through something, reflect and learn. But imagine how much growth you could experience if you could have that awareness AS YOU GO THROUGH "it". So much possibility.
If you were in the room today, thank you for sharing the space today and being alive with us all.
