Lots of teaching this week. I get to Sunday when I jam on the blog and always ask, “Okay, now what intention from the week do I share here? It really is tough, but here we go. Todays share comes from a great article I was reading, "40 Things I Want to Tell My Kids Before They’re Too Cool to Listen" from the crew over at Marc & Angel. Legit vibes over there, def go mic check that site.
"Set your sights high. – Make your dreams big, exciting and undeniable. They’re the ones that will push you forward. Whatever is beyond your reach right now will not always be beyond your reach. Keep going."
ON THE MAT
This powerful message speaks to couple key areas of our practice. First, remember, we have blocks and straps if you need them. Some postures don't seem attainable to us some days. Our bodies are different everyday. But yoga practice doesn't judge. It loves that you simply showed up on your mat. Using a block and a strap can help the posture come to our body and help create alignment. As alignment develops, we can the work on the depth of a posture. With alignment, we can push forward.
Secondly, this quote reminds us, "what is beyond our reach will not always be.” So dream big and keep going.
As we moved through the class we focused on two areas with respect to the asana. First the leap forward from down dog to our hands. This is a tough one for many and really tough for me to personally do. Damn man, some people make it look so effortless. Sometimes I look at people do it and think, "You motherf*cker." Lol. We get to practice this many times in the flow, so we worked on it little elements at a time. First working the step forward. Making that lighter each time. Working our lift forward and how it carries us. We didn't all get it, but you best believe we all tried. #effort
The second area was Crow pose. The arm balancing posture in Modo Flow. When we got here, we stopped, took time with it and supported each other. We showed how we can use a block to create perch for the feet, or a block for the forehead when we tilt forward (falling forward is real fear for many). How we can use a strap around our arms. We talked about trusting your roots and trusting your ability to LIFT. No joke, using one modification or another, everyone in class got those toes off the ground. #legit
The power came in the willingness to try it. To keep going beyond the fear of falling and get lifted!! #empower(ful)
OFF THE MAT
This quote is meant to speak to our kids (before they’re too cool to listen), but it is ever present for you & me. If you have kids, or have nieces and nephews or siblings, they watch us, they learn from our actions. You are a role model.
Are you pushing forward with your big dreams? Are you making your life exciting and undeniable?
We can tell our youth to keep going, but our biggest impact is for them to see someone who backs it up with action. They need to see you fall and see you get back up! This will inspire them more then any words. Keep going, start with today, make it exciting, make it UNDENIABLE.
FAVE PLAYLIST FROM LAST WEEK
- NOTE, this playlist I created on Apple Music, you will need it to listen too.
- This playlist was inspired by the amazing Betty Davis. She's a legend man, what ever music platform you use, do yourself a favour and get with Betty.
- She was married to Miles Davis for a year and greatly inspired his desire to experiment with his jazz. She's the one who connected him to Jimi Hendrix. Jimi and Miles went off man. New level shit for real.
- Also worth it to go check Miles album Bitches Brew
