I saw Philly D a few months ago when he spoke at Vincent Massey Collegiate. I went into the presentation thinking "Here's another excuse to get us out of class -- an excuse for me to listen to my iPod for an hour, while pretending to listen to this guy talk." But the minute Philly D walked on "stage" (the middle of our gym floor), I was enthralled. He made me laugh (A LOT), and there were times when I almost cried. These were stories about truly inspirational people, or just something inspirational to tell me. He did it in a way that made teenagers (who, by the way, already know everything) listen and LEARN!!

Fancy that! I walked out of the gym that day feeling energized, and happy about who I was. I have two legs that work, and a family that loves me...what more could I ask for? Philly D helped me see that its not about having the coolest shirt, or a "sweet ride", its about who you are, no matter who that may be.

I just wanted to thank you again for all the time, effort and professional experience you brought to this years Empowering Students Kick-off.  I was so impressed with your presentation, charisma and ability to work with our ever changing agenda.  Your expertise lent to the overall success of the day, and it was a great pleasure working with you.  Your multi-media components and  presentation were very highly, highly rated.  I will see you throughout the year I'm sure.  Thanks!

Where to even begin ! I have seen you several different times, but most
recently at Grimsby Secondary School this past Wednesday. I`m sure you hear
it everyday, but you are a really big inspiration in my life.  You inspire me
to want to be a better person, and to change the world for the better.  Since
I first met you at one of your presentations I have changed my life for the
best.  I have been volunteering in my community, and I have just totally changed the way I think, the way I live, and who I am.  I am a better person because of you.

Hey Phil! Thank you for doing what you do! I heard you speak at the Massachusetts State Leadership Conference in Hyannis, MA this past weekend. You are truely inspiring!! I'm going through a pretty rough time in my life right now, and you're message of "Your life is special!" meant soooo much to me. Until now, I never truely stopped to think about that statement. And it is so true! Everybody is here for some reason or another! So thank you for being here! Your talk meant so much to me. So powerful and meaningful. You really are an inspiration to me, and others around you. You are incredible at what you do. Thank you!
Annie, Delegate at Conference

Hi Philly D,  I just wanted to thank you so much for your amazing presentation at our Legacy III Leadership Conference.  You were a dynamic hit with all our students.  So many of them came up to me to tell me what an impact you had on them.

I remember the first time I saw and heard you speak at the OSLC...you had me at hello!  You are still an inspiration, in fact you are getting better.  Thanks for touching the heart of so many of our students.  Monday is going to be a very different day at Cardinal Carter for so many of our young leaders, due in large part to you.  You are light for the world!

I am a support worker for a young man named Paul, he attends Vincent Massey High School in Brandon, MB, where you did a leadership conference this past December. I hope you remember Paul, as he and I are reading through your book at this time, and he is enjoying it very much. I am writing you this email, because your book is moving me also. It has started to move a long forgotten desire of mine to lead & mentor more.   In the next few weeks I will be start to lead some workshops that are being cordinated by a new foundation in Brandon here called The EMMA Foundation. It is a foundation that will be putting on workshops for the young females in our community. Girls from grades 7, 8 and 9 from the Brandon School Division are being invited to attend workshops pertaining to areas of self-esteem, self concept, media, bullying and others.  Your program and book really was the push I needed to take the appropriate action.  Thank you!

Hello Phil, my friend and I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed your speech at our University today. We found it very inspiring, and even life-changing. Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us. You started to circle of happiness, meaning, you gave us a new perspective on life and we've passed it onto others. So it's a good thing. Thank you again.
Michelle & Jenny, University of Winnipeg

Oh my god, Philly D! You were at my school E. L. Crossley in Fonthill today
I have to admit I was truly inspired. I was inspired to give back to my
community. I have to thank you for your speech and how amazing it was. Not
only are you funny but you really get the point across.

Hi there, this is Amelia. You probably don't know who I am but I was in the audience at Amherst Regional High School (Grade9-10 speech) I don't usually send anyone fanmail. But anyway I just wanted to let you know I think you're hilarious. It's great the way you break the ice too, with the bits of seriousness amoungst the laughter it was powerful. Had you not been a motivational speeker I probably would have thought you were insane. When I heard you were coming in, my immediate thought was, "Oh no, some loon is going to come in with the "Yes You Can" spiel again" But, yet again I am wrong. (the universe is out to get me, It wants me to be wrong about everything for the rest of my mortal life [haha]) So, providing you're not too busy being SuperMan the second here's some fanmail, post it amoung your collection of "You rock letters" XD Ooooh, something that just came to mind.. I think you even got Mrs.Taylor laughing, she's our band teacher. You probably met her, she's a great teacher but very strict and.. er... <whips out thesaurus>(Indeed, I am cool) Irksome.  If I hadn't seen it myself I wouldn't have believed it.
Amelia Sparks Amherst RHS, Amherst, NS

I was at the assembly today in the grade 11 and 12 group. I just want to say that it was amazing! Today I came home and told my parents that I have decided to go to university after telling them that I was just going to work after high school. They were so happy. Then we called my old school today and got involved again in the organization that we started last year for a friend of mine that was killed in a car crash. I remember what you said during the assembly about a person who said to you that you really inspired them but they couldn’t really come up with anything that they were inspired to do, but I can tell you that because of that speech today I am going to become more involved, I'm not going to be the person who makes fun others and I'm going to start focusing more on the positive aspects of life instead of dwelling on the negative.

I just got back from Philly D's presentation, and felt I needed to email. He is an amazing person. Phil used his real life experiences in his speaking. He was very funny. He didn't just talk and explain things, he used humour and could relate to the students. Everyone was laughing so hard. I would definitely recommend him for a presentation.
Stacy, Student, Aden Bowman Collegiate Saskatoon, SK

I just the Philly D assembly today. I was laughing so much, and seconds later I felt like I could cry. It was an awesome assembly! It inspired me in so many ways. I couldn't ask for a better life after hearing your assembly. High school is a tough place with clothes, gossip, who you hang out with and who you are totally affects you high school status! I think thats wrong! Thank you so much for coming to my school and sending an important & positive message! I admire your career, your encouraging so many kids!
Amanda Gibson, Student, Pleasent Valley SS Armstrong, BC

Hey Philly D, I really really enjoyed your presentation today at Major Pratt, it was AMAZING. Before the presentation, people were saying that they didn't want to come. My teacher got very upset about people complaining, and told us that you were an amazing speaker, and if he wasn't able to make you learn about “Assets” or anything along those lines, then you would make us feel good about ourselves. She said that you had that much power in your words. I sat in class, and thought to myself…how can a man, who I have never met, and doesn't even know my name, be able to stand up in front of a crowd of almost 200 people, and make me feel good about myself. I mean, I'm just a 16 year old girl...why would he take a whole day out of his life, to try to make other people feel good about themselves. I didn't think anyone would be able to have that kind of influence on me. Well…you proved me wrong. You were amazing. I was able to understand you. I just wanted to thank you so much for taking the time to stop at our school, and I hope you come back sometime in the next 3 years!
Hannah Kostuik, Student, Major Pratt School Russell, MB

Hey Philly D! I'm Abby, a grade 9 student! About a year ago I went to an FCCLA convention in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I was pretty bored while I was there but when I saw you get up on stage and start speaking, I was like "WOW".  Your speech really taught me something.  Last night I just could not get to sleep so I pulled your book out and I read all of it in about an hour. Now I realize that if I take CONTROL, share COMPASSION, hold my head high with CONFIDENCE, and  display my COURAGE, people will have more respect for me instead of looking down on me.  In the hour that it took me to read your powerful book, you made a HUGE impact on my life. Thank you soo much for that! I needed to boost my confidence, and definitely increase my courage, share compassion and most of all..take control of my actions & my words!  After listening to your motivating speech and reading your book, I feel like I have become a more positive and stronger person. PLEASE don't stop your motivational speaking because I know you impacted the 10 000 people that were in that arena a year ago and your book continues to impact.
Abby Mathis, Grade 9 Student, Guymon High School, FCCLA, Oklahoma

Hey Philly D! I am Kayleigh, a grade 9 student from Neepawa. You came to our school this morning & gave us an AMAZING presentation. When I first heard we were having another 'speaker,' I was like, "Oh boy here we go again." However, the moment I saw you, I knew this was going to be a good one! When I walked into the gym you were interacting with the students and you looked fun. When ever I see kids that are terminally or even temporarily ill, I always want to do something about it, but I never seem to have the motivation to do it. Now that I know you have done it, maybe I can do it when I get older. I will do it." Thank you very very much!
Sincerely, Kayleigh Lavich

Hello Phil, My name is Heather, a grade 9 at Moira SS. I was very moved by your talk. I was motivated to help other people to better their lives like you did at the hospital. I loved your presentation, you really know how to reach out to your audience & make a powerful connection. Thank you soo much for coming to our school, you've changed the way I look at my life and everything that has happended in it.
Heather, Grade 9 Student, Moira SS Belleville, ON

Philly D is a dynamic speaker who delivers a message that is relevant and needed. He draws students in with his humour and keeps them with his powerful presence. Phil was a GREAT and a MEMORABLE addition to our conference. Before the conference he also did an assembly at our host school and again the reviews were above & beyond expectations, and we expected great things.
Kara Pilon, Conference Co-Chair

"Thank you for coming to our school, and talking some sense into a lot of people! I was lucky enough to witness BOTH of your speeches that day, because when you did the grad one, I was in a grade 12 class... and when you did the rest of the school, I was in a split class; it was grand. I enjoyed both thoroughly, and I really hope I get to see you again some day! To be honest, when we all went in there, and heard it was gonna’ be some 'motivational' speaker... everybody groaned, including myself! But when we went.... it was just different! You had my full attention the entire time (which doesn't happen) and, you made EVERYBODY laugh hysterically... I really enjoyed that day because of you. So, thank you Philly D! You have yourself a peachtastic day. And I'm sorry this e-mail was so long, your eyes are probably glazed over by now."
Kaylie, Grad Student, PVSS,
Armstrong, BC, Canada

Philly D you were the by far the best speaker at our conference. In just one hour you made me realize so much about how I think and act! I take your challenge to be a better person seriously. Your gift of truth is something that should be shared with all. Thank you so much for comming to talk to NWOSSSA! Your amazing! Vanessa Vaillant, Delegate NWOSSSA Leadership Conference

On behalf of the Northwest Business Centre and all those who participated in the Northwest Business Plan contest, we would like to thank your for your very generous support in making our event a complete success. Your closing keynote was powerful and a great wrap for our delegates. Your obvious appreciation for fostering entrepreneurship amongst youth is encouraging and greatly admired. We look forward to having you back next year.

You sure know how to make a person feel special, and yet challenge them to be better at the same time. I finished your book a couple days ago and it was so awesome!!!! Every time I'd think, " This definitely has to be my favorite part of the book and applies to me the most," I'd read on and think the same thing about a quote a couple of lines down. I really really enjoyed your book, but it made me feel guilty too ( that's a good thing though because it motivates me to be better) because of the things that I need to be doing that I'm not. I was thinkin'.... HMMMM..... DOES HE WATCH MY EVERYDAY LIFE AND KNOW THE LEADERSHIP QUALITIES THAT I LACK?

My favorite part of the book was the section on Compassion. Like you said, they're all equally important but I suppose I'm partial to compassion and your book made me realize that there are so many oppurtunities in my everyday life to demonstrate compassion. I work at the Dollar Store in Wilburton ( the town in which I go to school ), and sure, I'm nice and always give a smile but I never really MEAN " How are ya tonight?" when I say it. So, your book has challenged me to reach out to more people and actually take the time to get to KNOW some of their situations.
Cherish Harriss, FCCLA State Officer
President Oklahoma Chapter, USA

I want to start by saying that the presentation you made to my graduating class yesterday was phenominal! I don't think I have ever witnessed a group of graduates (especially my graduating class!) be so inspired by anyone in all of my years at high school. On a more personal note, the footnote on page 34 of your book has honestly changed my outlook on life forever. Reading some one tell me that my life is worth everything in the world blows me away. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you have done for me and for everyone at any of your presentations.

Your book is amazing and in my opinion it should be read by everyone, everywhere. You have inspired me, directed me, and helped me begin to grow into the person I want to be. Thank you again!
Erin Kosola, Grad Student

Hello Philly D, I don't know if you get your emails personally, but I wanted to send a personal note of thanks.  I am a first year university student and I was giving someone advice on getting into school, and I had mentioned what I had done to keep motivated.  I shared with him all my advice and then it clicked where I learned all of it.

I soaked it up from one of your speeches at a leadership conference I attended in high school... and it really helped me. I'm proud to say...all the goals got crossed off, I got into every school, every program... I am enrolled in honours economics @ Laurier...one of the best economics programs in Canada.  Anyhow, I know it's been years, but I just wanted to thank you as I have had a few life moments because of you.

The first one was back in Jr. High where I was kind of a jock....and wasn't overly involved in things outside of hockey. A girl dragged me to a leadership conference where your speech "leading your life" was perhaps 2 of the biggest ingredient in making me the person I am now. Every time I see someone being harassesed, I think of "they wont remember what u said, but they'll remember how u made them feel."

Every time I mess up...i think about the kids in the cancer ward, and every time I think about going out to do crazy things, i ask myself, "Is this gona help me get to where I want to be? Will it help become who I can be?
Sean Lagan, University of Laurier

Philly D is an upbeat, entertaining speaker with a message that resonated with our students. As one of our seniors said, "He is so great...he could make a living as a comedian." His message and his method made Philly D a hit at Bow Valley High School. We can't wait to have him back!

Hey Phil! My name is Katherine and you came to my school this morning , which just happened to be the school you graduated from, and I just wanted to say thank you SO much for everything you had to say.  You got on a level that made it so much better to hear.  It was like a teenager telling us we matter, and to me that made me feel so much better because teenagers put the most pressure on themselves, especially with peer pressure. In my case, trying to have the perfect body of JLO, or Paris Hilton. You made it seem like none of that matters, and all that matters is who you are.

You made me realize that there is so much more to life then having the perfect body or being the most popular kid and that you just need to live for the moment and be proud of who you are. Everything that you brought up with Sick Kids hospital put so much into perspective. I remember my cousin having to be at Sick Kids and having to go visit him and just seeing the look of pain in is eyes as he didn’t really even have enough effort to raise his hands to give me a hug. All he did was show me the light on the end of his finger because he thought he looked like ET.

I’m sure you hear this a lot, but in all honesty, I can't thank you enough for everything you talked about today. You were definitely the highlight, everyone kept talking about you all day. You really made an impact on how I feel.
Katherine, Loyola CSS

It feels kind of weird to be writing to you and I have no idea how to start but... you had your presentation in our school today and I thought it was absolutely amazing! When I first heard that an past president of our school who has published a book is coming back to talk to us, I thought it's just going to be another boring presentation that is “supposed” to be inspirational. You changed my mind, and my heart.  The way you talked to us and treated us was totally different to the way we are used to. You didn’t look down at us, you weren’t trying to be someone better than us, you were equal to us, yet you elevated us

Hey Phil, you visited our school this morning and you have left a tremendous message with our schools Thanks for bringing your energy and positive mesage to our students and staff. You had the audience from start to finish and I feel your presentation will impact many of the students in the long-term. I sincerely appreciate people like yourself who do what you do to help others by using and developing the gifts you have been given in life. Not only are you inspiring you are an inspiration. Thank you again for visiting our school and sharing your message.

Hey Phil,

My name is Kayla and I am a seventeen year old girl whose life you made better today. Today, Phil, your presentation at RHS, touched my heart and made me believe that there is positive in the world. You answered questions that I didn't even know I had. And above all, you made me feel like my life means something to the world. You were right, too. It wasn't the words you said (though they were important), it was how they made me feel that mettered. Thank you so much!!!

I wanted to let you know something wonderful that happened to me. I won a speech contest for the VFW. I had the guts to enter it because of what you had in your speech at our school. I would never have had the opportunity to win this if it weren't for you. I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Have a great holiday season.
Wendy Turner, Livonia, MI USA

Hi Phil! It’s been over 5 months since you visited our school & I need to let you know the impact you’ve made.  For weeks after your "first day of school" assembly the students talked about not only how entertaining you were, but about your message. Students seemed more "tuned in" to their peers, and as a counselor, my business boomed. Students would tell me about friends they were worried about or just wanted to talk. It was as though they were striving for a little higher quality of living... choosing not to wallow in the sad or depression, and striving to find the positive.

The leadership workshop you did was awesome! My student council shot into the school year with so much enthusiasm they almost left me in the dust! The have accomplished more this year than I would have ever imagined.

As for the workshop you did for our teachers, I have noticed more compassion and desire to understand students from the teachers than I have ever seen before. I think that has to be one of the most wonderful things. I don't believe that teachers always know the power they hold with students. That power can help a child reach the stars, or crush them like a bug. I am seeing more and more EMPOWERING of students this year, which is so amazing.

The power, inspiration, and message you shared with us have had a beautiful and profound impact on all of us. Thank you for everything!

Rebecca Caballero, NCC, High School
St. Johns HS, St. Johns, AZ, USA

Hey Philly D! how are you doing? my name is Melissa baron, I'm seventeen years old, I live in Sherwood park Alberta and I'm involved in student leadership. I saw your workshop in Whitecourt, Alberta this spring, and I saw you again at Abbottsford, BC. I have to say that when you looked us all in the eyes and told each and every one of us that our lives are worth everything in the world--that my life is worth everything in the world--my eyes filled with tears. its so moving, so powerful to have that kind of faith expressed in me. you don't even know me! I guess its just that I'm me that makes me worth that, without even having to know me. did that make sense? I don't know. I'm getting introspective here!

Right now I'm reading your book. my student council advisor, Chris Korte, lent me it. I think its fantastic. I'm taking it in small doses, so it will have time to sink in. the story about Martha especially moved me. I don't know how I would react in that situation. I like to think we all have the potential to act like that.
Melissa Baron, Student
Archbishop Jordan HS, Sherwood Park, AB

Hi Phil! Just wanted to pass on a HUGE thank you for everything. I think that you were able to reach a lot of students on Thursday - to see that kind of response from our grade 7/8s is phenomenal - they can be a tough group to reach! It's fantastic that you flew in at the last minute, we really appreciate thatextra effort you made to help us out.

I am 15 years old and in grade 10. Just today you entertained me for about an hour at Riverview High School in Cape Breton, NS.  Not only were you a motivation to my life, but your words were truly inspiring! Being on student council for 4 years (campaigning for next year is this week.. wish me luck :) haha) I have had to sit through quite a number of guest speakers... and let me tell you, they don't even compare when it comes to what you shared with RHS today!

The way you made feel gave me a different outlook on life and how to treat others and share my own experiences. I'm just a normal kid, I don't have an illness, I've never been bullied, and I don't have a hard time making new friends. I've always considered myself someone to accept everyone and help others accept me. I thought I was doing everything I could to make my school and community a better place for everyone!

My thoughts changed when I heard you today. So many messages were set in stone in my mind as of 2pm this afternoon. You taught me that the sky is the limit, and that I'm here for a reason.. not to get on the honor roll to impress my parents, not to have the perfect family/house/car, not to have the boyfriend who is the all star hockey player and be the award winning dancer, not to be the girl everyone wants to be friends with.. but to be happy with who i am, and what I am doing with my life. Words can't describe the impact you made on my life.. I bought your book so whenever I am in doubt of myself I can pick it up and get right back on my feet.. because in my mind your powerful words will always be there for me. You truly are amazing at what you do.

Everyone is put on this earth for a reason, and you've obviously found yours. I'm not kidding, my friends and I went from laughing so hard to crying during your speech.. and the boys even said "this guy is hilarious, best guest speaker i've seen".. coming from 15 and 16 year old boys, I salute you for that comment. I want to thank you one last time for giving us your time to share your experiences.. never stop motivating students because I will never forget the way you made me feel today! :)
Carla Emanuele, Sydney, NS

You made me think about my facing my fears.  The week after you spoke at our school, I joined the school band.  I was always afraid.  Your presentation gave me the push I needed.  I thought I wasn't good enough, in one short hour, you made me look at myself and say, "I am good enought."  Thank you Philly D.

I was reading through what other people around North America had to say about you on your website, including those comments from my own peers at my highschool in Nova Scotia.  Everybody feels exactly how I do. It must be amazing to touch so many people's lives-and we all can if we let ourselves.

I heard you speak the NSSSA regional conference, 2003.… and you blew me away. You mentioned a boy. A boy who had leukemia, or cancer, who couldn't give you a high-five in the hospital, because he wasn't allowed to touch anyone. You didn't give the whole story that day, but it still touched me in a way you wouldn't believe. I had $5 that I wanted to give to the High Five for Kids program, but it wasn't on me..and I knew I had to tell you my story somehow, but I didn't get the opportunity. Then, I was privileged and blessed enough to have you attend my high school, ESDH the very next day, for another speech, slightly different as it was for a different reason. But this time, you told the whole story.… about the boy...you see it reminded me so much of a personal event in my life, my cousin who was in the hospital. And this time, I got to tell you this. You won't remember me, but it doesn't matter. I knew I had to talk to you, and there were so many people but I got my chance, and all I had was one mere dollar left for your foundation, but I gave it anyway. I told you I was at your speech the day before, and how you made me sob two days in a row, because of my connection, and your powerful influence. I started crying in front of you, to my embarrassment, but you just gave me a hug and then sent me on my way.

You are an amazing person.  You inspire me so much.  I wish you could be coming to the next NSSSA conference, which is tomorrow!! But I know that I have to see you speak again some day, if not in high school. You are my HERO. And you know what it really is like to live life to its fullest.

Just a quick note to say "thank you" for your positive influence with the Unionville Strikers U17 Girls Team at the YLCC Retreat July 13-15, 2004. The players were able to immediately apply what they learned the following weekend, in the first round of their Provincial Championships, by successfully moving onto the next round. Faced with great adversity on both days of competition, every player displayed amazing courage and heart in achieving their weekend's goals. In my opinion, your influence was the final boost that helped us get over our hurdles that weekend. It is the intention of this coaching staff, that any positive influences (such as yourself and the staff at YLCC), have continued contact with our program and it's participants. We eagerly look forward to meeting you again in the very near future.
Mark Rodrigues - Head Coach

My experience with working with Philly D, has been nothing short of amazing! His energy, talent and presence was felt the minute he entered our school for his performance. Phil's message is powerful. It allows students to think of where they want their lives to go. Every student in the room was able to connect with Phil's message. His energy is something to truly witness...PHIL is one of a kind. His presence and message is still being felt in our school...and the kids are still talking about the impact his message had on them.

My name is also Phil! (phil is an awesome name) I am on Liberty High School ASB board. I wanted to thank you for an excellent and VERY motovational talk with my school. It was awesome to have u come for our Martin Luther King Jr. assembly. It was a great experience for us all and tonight i have talked to many of my peers....all we talk about is "that was the best speaker i have ever heard." You got the message across and it made many people take another approach towards life.

Having just experienced my second leadership retreat program with Philly D, I must say that once again he has exceeded our expectations. Phil has amazing workshops and the ability to adapt his programs to any theme you desire. I presented him with topics that I wanted to concentrate on for the school year and Phil put a dynamite weekend package together. His energy, enthusiasm, humour, and expertise had my 43 students (junior and senior classes) focused for the entire weekend. We now have an uplifting start to our school year thanks to the leadership retreat experience. I highly recommend this program as a way to not only work on year long themes but also as a great team building activity for your leadership class.
Dennis Gendron, Leadership Teacher

I just wanted to thank you once again. You were amazing!! People kept on coming up to me and saying this was the best assembly ever!! It was wonderful that you managed to keep all the students attention. People have a hard time doing that. Thank you once again, I know our school will have you back again soon.
Kirsten Woldendord, Skyline High School

I attended the NSSSA leadership conference this past Sunday where you gave a speech about how we treat people but also how we have to go after our passion in life and how we can reach our goals. After I came out of the auditorium when you finished I was literally shaking it was so good. I really feel that I could conquer the world. I now feel like anything is possible. I didn't know that anyone or anything could have such a huge impact on the way I live, feel, and think about life. You are an AMAZING motivational speaker and it makes your speeches 100 times better knowing that that is what you love to do; I could feel it. Thanks again,
Megan Bryden, SJA high school

Hey there Phil, my name is Monica and i am in the graduating class this year at St. Peter high school (you were there today). I have heard your presentation twice now and i have just got to say the words that come out of your mouth show me that hey I'm not the only one who's life isn't the best. After your presentation last year i decided to just go for it and since then i have made so many new friends and i am a much happier person. I have joined the choir this year and i am going to try out for the school play. Thank you so much for all your inspirational words they have really helped. I have told a friend in NS about how great you are and she was wondering where she could get info on having you speak at her school. If you could send any info to me it would be great. Thanks again for all the stories.
Monica,

Hi Philly D!! My name's Zack and you recently did a presentation at my high-school. I just wanted to thank you personally because what you said really made me think. It really touched me and it was incredible. It's like I see life in a totally different perspective now, a better one. It was a really eye-opener for me and I have to thank you for that. It was really amazing what you spoke about and it is all true. It seemed like at one moment my heart just stopped beating and nothing was around me. Just you and your speech. It kind of made me wanna cry. Your message was perfect and the way you put it was extraordinary. Sorry, I keep rambling on and I know your busy. I just wanted to say thanks. Thank you for opening my eyes.
Zack

Let me start off by saying, “Philly D, your presentation BLEW-ME-AWAY.” You have an amazing talent; when you start talking, you can’t stop listening. Your visit was refreshing, to say the least, it was a reminder, that all of us needed. You are truly an inspirational person, and I am very glad you do what you do, so thousands young people can experience what you’ve given me. You’ve given me smiles, tummy aches (of laughter) and a happy glow, which is on me still to this very moment. So THANK YOU Philly, for re-igniting my passion for life. It is with me still. Good luck with all your other schools, and of course with your fiancee Ryann!

Hello Phil, I though I would email you. You came to my school today (centennial secondary school) in Welland. I didn't get a chance to thank you, because I was so shaken up from your amazing speech. It was the first time I cried in a long time. It almost was if I forgot how to cry and you let me know that it was okay if I did. Your performance was very, very moving and it reminded me a lot of my brother who passed away when I was 7 because of tumors that were in his back. It brought back the many, many amazing memories I had with him. I have a lot of problems in my life, with myself especially and although I have found ways to deal with things, there are still those days where it is a lot of pressure and pain and you just want to get it out somehow. Your speech made me realize that I NEVER focus on the good things in my life and maybe if I did, it would help me achieve success. So I began thinking about it and then I thought to myself that I was being ignorant for taking all the good things I have for granted. Your speech was amazing, and I can't thank you enough. You made a huge impact on my life.

Hello Philly D – I hope it’s alright if I emailed you. Immediately after I became informed that a "motivational speaker" would be talking to us during period two, I immediately had a vision of boredom in my head. What happened during that hour howeve, was far from boring.

I wanted to tell you how much your words meant to me, but all that came out was my less then enthusiastic hello. You made me, along with many others, go through many emotions during that short period of time. I saw people cry that would have never shed a tear otherwise, and I saw people laugh that felt as if they had no reason to even smile prior to that. I would have never expected that a speech in such a short period of time from a complete stranger would change my views of life so much. I left that auditorium wanting to be a better person. Even though I may just be one small voice, I think it's worth it to try to make a positive difference in at least one person's life.

I raved about you all day to my friends and family and I have to admit that that was the most worthwhile hour of my life. I wish that everyone could have a similar outlook as you.

I have so many things I want to say to you and I don't even know where to start. You were at my school today and I believe you touched every single person in our auditorium (which you probably already know). Personally I don't think words could describe how I felt during and after your "presentation" but I think my face would have. As you probably witness after every visit to places around North America you know you have touched people when they have tears rolling down their face, even if they are from laughter. I personally had tears in my eyes the whole time. At the beginning it was from laughing hysterically, and by the end, from emotions I can't even explain. All I have been thinking about since you visited our school was the email from the girl who was 16. I am 16 too and as all teenagers do, I thought I had it so bad but after hearing her e-mail I have totally changed the way I look at life. I'm going to try not to take things for granted, especially little things like being able to touch my family so I can give them hugs. I don't usually give my mom or dad hugs but I have realized today that I should be thankful I can, and definitely try to do it more often, if not everyday. As I said before, no words could ever amount to what you did for me today but I want you to know that I do thank you very much.

“Your entire speech blew me away… I sat there and cried for a few minutes realizing how selfish I was to think my problems were bad. You gave me perspective. Life is important; you helped me see that my life is important.

If you are ever in Penticton again, I would like to donate at least $20 to your High 5-4 Dreams Program. The children are really worth it, and they might not be able to fulfill their dreams the way I can live mine. Thank you for the inspiration. It has changed the way I think about and live my life.

“I just wanted to send you a quick email and tell you how amazing you really are! I was group leader at the NWOSSSA conference this year and what you said to us really really hit me! I was in tears when I left the lecture hall and I know I wasn’t alone! Good tears, the ones that challenge you to be better then you are. So thank you! I also wanted to tell you that this was not the first time I’ve heard you speak....I was a delegate at NWOSSSA's conference in 2001.

I am not proud of the person I was before that, but, YOU changed me. It is not often that a person can remember an exact point in time where they're life changed...because change is something that usually occurs over time. BUT! To this day I still remember that exact turning point in my life, and that was when you spoke to us that year. You made me realize who I was, and that I was not happy with myself. You also made me realize who I wanted to become, and what I wanted to do, and you gave me the courage to change.

When I left the lecture hall after hearing you speak in 2001, I decided that I wanted to change and become a better person. This year I came back to NWOSSSA as a group leader, because I wanted to make a difference in someone’ s life, and make an impact on someone’s life the way you made an impact on me. I owe it all to you. Sitting and listening to you speak this year was like a reward, I feel so much gratitude. You are an amazing person, and I am who I am today because of you!”

Hello Phil, I met you at NSSSA, in the cafeteria; you advised me to try a Fajita (a good choice by the way!). I didn’t realize that you were our guest speaker. Not only did you help me make a good choice about lunch, but you brought out every emotion in me, my hopes, my fears, my smiles, my tears, my strengths and my weakness’. You are an every day Hero without the cape. Your words went into my ears and will stay in my heart for a long time. Your message was clear and I now know what I need to do to change my life so that I can contribute to my school and community in a positive way. You deliver your stories with such passion. I felt comfortable and trusted your words....YOU ARE SO REAL.

I wish there were more Philly D's in the world but I also know now that EVERYONE has someone like you inside of them... we all need to let our true personality show through. I know you hear it again and again but I had to let you know how much you helped me breath a little easier, smile a little more and love those that need love the most; starting with me.

“Thank you Philly D for coming to our conference. Your presentation was awesome; great message and powerful delivery. You got the students interested and kept them there. Our advisors had great comments and the teachers from Slippery Rock and Ford City (where you did assemblies before the conference) were especially pleased that their students got to see ‘two’ different programs. Thanks again.

”The school was just buzzing with excitement yesterday after you left. Comments such as, “It is the best thing we have ever had,” could be heard by staff & students. Your message touched a lot of people. Staff had wonderful comments all afternoon (even the ones who sometimes try to sneak out of the assemblies!!!) Before you came we had a staff meeting and they were asking me what you were about apart from "You are Special". I just said, “Wait, trust me , he is great.” I knew you would prove me right. Thanks for coming and sharing your message with us. Hope that your time in New Brunswick all goes well.

I know you must get gazillions of emails every day, but I still wanted to write and say thank you for everything. I've gotten nothing but SUPER POSITIVE feedback from the students. They loved you Phil, and since our Students’ Council organized it, they love us too. They were even asking me if you're coming back next year.

That one hour that you took to speak to the school really motivated and inspired people, and I know that must be such a rewarding feeling for you! You're a great man, good luck with everything Phil, and hopefully you can fit us in next year.

“ I am writing you this message to tell you to keep up the good work. I was a student at your presentation in Carleton North; it was fantastic. I am into this assembly with a pre-conceived notion of what a ‘motivational’ speaker would be like. You took away that bias in the first 5 minutes. Your 'Appreciation, Celebration and No Hesitation' philosophy answers a question I've been pondering over for months. I answered it with a saying: To live in Truth, Love and Acceptance, but yours just adds more to it. I think it is great that you can reach out to people so well. It is certainly a skill you should be proud of as I can imagine it helps many people cope with the serious problems of life.

I don't know if you'll remember me or not, but I met you at your camp close to a year ago. Well the reason I am writing you is the fact that I was thinking about one of your speeches the other day. I was remembering all your inspiring words and the fact that you say go for your dreams. Well I think you are an incredible person...you inspire people daily and you make me smile! I hope someday that I am able to have half of the energy and enthusiasm as you!

I applied for a program to go to Africa. I have decided I want to live my life by helping others...so that is exactly what I am going to do. I want to go to other countries and help the people that need it most. I just wanted you to know that you inspired me and that I believe in the power to help others!"

My name is Amy and I am 17 years old.  First off i just want to say that you are an amazing speaker. So amazing in fact, that I still think about what you said months later. You came to Kennebecasis Valley High School (NB Canada.."Kenne") quite a few months ago. You told an amazing story about a friend of yours, and I will probably never forget it.  I cried over your story. I got your message. Although many of us (including me) find it very hard to grasp the concept of being "special", your time spent at KVHS was not a waste. As soon as you left, and still at the end of the year, students would walk down the halls, smiling and giving high-fives. You have made such an impact on our school, and my life. I'll be very honest- I am one of many people who do (or DID) think that I was so much better than anyone else. I have money and a great life. I am priviliged. (spell?) Anyway, the point is, I totally understand the point that it doesn't matter your background, everyone has something amazing about them, something special about them. And ever since you came to speak to my school, i've opened up to so many people, made so many more friends, and really begun to learn that diversity is amazing. Maybe that wasn't your point, but I have learned a great life lesson from you. Well, that's prettymuch the point of my e-mail. Just to let you know that I still think about you. and I hope things are going great for you. i have no clue how busy you are this summer, but if you have the time, I would love to hear from you. So mail me back if you can.
